Kathreen (Gunderson) Bradley
Kathreen graduated from Ossian High School as valedictorian of her class and received a scholarship to Luther College. She received her BA degree from Luther in 1942 and later continued her graduate studies with the University of Minnesota and Winona State University.
After her graduation in 1942 Kathreen taught English and social studies in the Elma, IA high school. While there she was also asked to teach elementary music and coach the girls’ basketball, softball and volleyball teams. Needless to say, she remained there only one year.
In 1943 Kathreen moved to Mabel, MN and taught high school social studies there until 1945. At that time she accepted a teaching position in the Decorah school system and taught junior high mathematics until she retired temporarily in 1947. She and her husband Elton became the parents of 3 children: Kay, Janice and James. (See Elton Bradley story).
Kathreen could never quite get her love for teaching “out of her system” and eventually began to substitute in the Decorah schools. When her youngest child was in kndergarten she was offered a position to teach English in the Decorah Junior High School. She taught there from 1960 until her retirement from teaching in 1991.
Since she loves to be with people and still has an active mind she chose to become the bookkeeper for her husband and son at Bradley Auto Sales. Due to the location of the business she is often able to see many of her friends and former colleagues and also has the opportunity to meet new and interesting people.
